For more than 20 years ago the Danish Flyfisher and Fly tyer Martin Votborg developed this fly, that might have a bit of a scary name to the people, who dislike a new immigrant to the Danish Nature … The Wolf (In Danish – Ulven).
In Denmark, the Wolf is protected, and the original hair, that was used for the fly, is now compensated with Coyote, Grey Fox or Racoon. As Martin remembers, the first versions of “Ulven” was build up from a piece of Skin from a Canadian Wolf, he bought long time ago. For his commercial sale of flies he also uses the compensations.
The Wolf is THE fly for Martin, and in fact one of his friends has stopped fishing with this pattern. As he explained “It gets almost to easy to catch the seatrout”
See the Video and the pattern here on our You Tube Channel, and look for the next number of “Sportsfiskeren” the magazine for the members of the Danish Sportfishing Association. The Wolf – Ulven is presented here.
