Angus Drummond is a Colorado based guide and photographer whose images have been used in magazines and books as well as on web sites. Angus' images are also available as fine art prints. We summoned Angus as a part of our Fishy Photographers rally and asked him a few questions.

How did you start photographing - and what made you choose fishing related photos in particular?

I was very lucky in my upbringing and have very outdoor orientated parents.
I started fishing when I was about 6 years old at that time we lived in England on a canal. I remember catching my first fish there with my mum in my pajamas. Since that day fishing has been a big part of my life. When I was 14 I began fly fishing and have been doing it ever since. After college in Northeastern United States I moved out west to Colorado and became a fly fishing guide.
I was introduced to photography also at an early age by my father who is an avid bird-watcher and photographer. Growing up I usually had a camera of some sort on my outdoor excursions, so inevitably these two passions blended over the years and now most of my photography consists of fly fishing related images.

Do you have a particular subject, region or a style of pictures that you mainly shoot or are you more all-round?

My subject matter is pretty much fly fishing related in Midwestern United states. My favorite style of picture is landscapes, fishing can take you to some truly breathtaking places and I enjoy trying to capture that. I try and do a little bit of everything from macro to underwater and everything in between.

Where are your photos used? Books, magazines, brochures, ads, web sites, prints, gallery exhibits or other places?

Some of my photos are used in fly fishing books a few recent ones include "Sight Fishing For Trout" and "Colorado's Best Fly Fishing" both by Landon Mayer and "Trout Lessons" by Ed Engle. I have had the opportunity to work with numerous fly fishing and outdoor magazines such as American Angler, Southwest Fly Fishing, Catch Magazine, Fly Fisherman and Outside Magazine. I also do work for fly shop's websites and brochures, ads for fishing companies, and fine art prints for lodges, fly shops and anyone who wants to purchase a print.

Is photography your main source of income - if at all a source of income - and do you do other jobs as a supplement?

I make most of my income as a fly fishing guide and stay extremely busy spring through the fall. My photography does bring in some income just not as much as guiding.

Can people buy your pictures and if so, then in which form and where?

Yes my prints are available on my website angusdrummond.com
The fine art prints are available on canvas or a number of fine art papers.
All transactions are done through Paypal.

Where do you currently live and work?

I currently live in Old Colorado City in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I live here with my very understanding wife Hilary and two labs Baetis and Hatch.
I guide day trips on the South Platte drainage basin which is on the East slope of Rocky Mountains. I also guide multiday raft fishing trips in Gunnison Gorge which is on the west slope.

What's in your bag? Preferred cameras, bodies, lenses and other gear?

Right now im shooting with the Canon 50d.
This is usually what I carry with me in a Lowepro Dryzone Rove or Pelican box if I'm in a boat.
- Canon 17-55mm my all around lens

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
