Hook: 14 - 16
Thread: primrose silk waxed
Tail: medium blue dun 3 whisks
Body rear half: primrose floss
Body front half: mole fur dubbing
Hackle: medium blue dun rooster hackle wound through thorax
Skues says,”It makes a fairly effective Nymph, which is what it was probably originally intended to represent. It is not a Stone Fly.”
I think by nymph he means a nymph emerging. The thorax and hackle combination looking like a formed fly exiting its shuck. The primrose silk when wet will darken and have translucency as well.
These Devon patterns and Cutcliffe’s discussion of nymphs lead to men like Skues among others getting creative in their tying to mimic nymphs and emergers.
